Situated on the edge of Oslo the Grønmo landfill is now regarded as a scar in the Marka forest.
But Grønmos apparent weaknesses can be turned to strengths through urban farming; heat from the waste, a composting and recycling facility and clean top soil are ideal ingredients to support cultivation.
We propose a range of gardens which will grow according to demand within a fixed framework that is defined by a path system following the landfill’s gas piping network.
The path system features educational and recreational layers and «farm yards» acting as social and functional hubs.
The gardens are designated to three groups: local inhabitants, schools from Oslo and agricultural scientists.
In this way the gardens will engage and integrate communities on the district, city and global scale.
